Book Club

Tuesday, November 7th 6:00 pm at Casa del Rio.

In celebration  & recognition of reading our 50th book, we are dining at Casa del Rio & then discussing the book, "Radium Girls” by Kate Moore.  “The incredible true story of the women who fought America’s Undark danger.  The Curies’ newly discovered element of radium makes gleaming headlines across the nation as the fresh face of beauty & wonder drug of the medical community. From body lotion to tonic water, the popular new element shines bright in the otherwise dark years of the First World War.

Meanwhile, hundreds of girls toil amidst the glowing dust of the radium-dial factories. The glittering chemical covers their bodies from head to toe; they light up the night like industrious fireflies. With such a coveted job, these “shining girls” are the luckiest alive — until they begin to fall mysteriously ill.

But the factories that once offered golden opportunities are now ignoring all claims of the gruesome side effects, and the women’s cries of corruption. And as the fatal poison of the radium takes hold, the brave shining girls find themselves embroiled in one of the biggest scandals of America’s early 20th century & in a groundbreaking battle for workers’ rights that will echo for centuries to come."

Come & enjoy an evening of discussion, dessert & a lot of fun! Everyone is welcome & please invite a friend!

Crafter's Corner

Saturday, November 18th • 9 am-8:30 pm at church.

Come and craft the afternoon away!  Bring your favorite crafts and join in an afternoon of fellowship and fun!

We’ll be having Thanksgiving dinner for lunch so sign up to bring a dish to pass such as turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberries, green bean casserole, mac & cheese, stuffing, dinner rolls, veggie tray, desserts, fruit, snacks, etc.  Invite a friend or two and come for lunch or stay for the whole day! Everyone is welcome.

Community Christmas

Saturday, December 16th from 11:30am – 4 pm.

Join in a potluck lunch and then help in sharing the spirit of Christmas with each other by contributing to those in our community.  We will be making Christmas cards for the assisted living home, making Christmas ornaments to decorate our tree, baking cookies for Hebron House and making blankets for the homeless.  The youth will also be making their cookie mix in a jar.  Community Christmas has been great and rewarding fun in the past and is an activity for everyone!  Please sign up at the welcome table to bring a dish to pass!  Hope to see you all there!
